Dr. Gary W. London, a devoted physician, veteran and beloved family man, passed away on April 14, at the age of 81. Born in Alexandria, Louisiana, Gary was the son of Arthur and Aileen London and was raised in Lorain, Ohio. A lifelong learner and dedicated healer, he attended Northwestern University for both his undergraduate and medical degrees, laying the foundation for a career marked by compassion, integrity and service.
Following medical school, Gary served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, completing two years of active duty before settling in Potomac, Maryland in 1974, where he established a long and respected career in neurology. Over the course of more than 45 years, he served the Montgomery County community with expertise and care, earning the deep respect and gratitude of his patients and colleagues. Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susie London, in 1999. He is survived by his fiancée and devoted partner, Marcia Nusgart; His three sons, David (Cynthia), Jeremy (Robin) and Benjy (Avrah); And his seven grandchildren: Amanda, Lily, Sammy, Casey, Dani, Ashley and Cooper. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Jill and Kathy London.
Those who knew Gary will remember his sharp mind, warm heart and steady presence. He was a man of great intellect, quiet humor and unwavering commitment — to his family, his profession and his country. Gary was an avid reader, a wine enthusiast, a passionate sports fan and art collector. His intellect, wit and deep appreciation for culture enriched the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the family he loved so dearly and the countless patients he cared for over decades of dedicated service. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JSSA or Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
